I went to a thrift store on Friday and found this amazing navy 100% cotton duvet with two patterns divided by some gold and navy stripes. The patterns are the same design, but the gold is a smaller scale than the grey. I thought this would be a great opportunity to try some color blocking with the two colors.
Idea #1: Contrasting Yokes, Plackets and Peplums
The first idea that came to mind is to use the smaller-scale pattern as a contrast yoke, placket or peplum. Here are a few patterns that jumped out as good options for something like that.
March Top and Dress by Helen’s Closet

I love the square placket on the front of this dress, and I also like that this wouldn’t require me to do any pattern matching if I chose to do the gathered skirt/bottom.

Here, in addition to the back yoke being an option for a contrast, I could also use the gold pattern for the shoulder pieces and ruffles, as well as the bottom tier of the skirt.
Kemper Shirt by Seamwork

Here, I’d replace the lace accents with the gold pattern.
Nocturne Pajama Top by Sew Liberated

Pretty standard, but I’d use the contrast for the front yoke detail.
Idea #2: Contrast Details
The next idea uses a significantly smaller amount of the gold pattern, but I think would still add visual interest.
Sport Shorts by Friday Pattern Company

I love the idea of using the gold as the bias tape, waistband, and drawstring on these (and could definitely use more shorts like this).
Witt Pants by Seamwork

Although not described in the original pattern, using the contrast fabric for the patch pockets would be great.
Donny Shirt by Friday Pattern Company

This is a bit funky, but what about using the contrast fabric on the collar part of this shirt and the pocket? I think this would be the most unexpected of the patterns here.
Idea #3: Bold Contrast Color Blocking
Wilder Gown by Friday Pattern Company

Depending on how much yardage I have of the contrast fabric, I could use it for one of the tiers on this dress, or perhaps the sleeves.
Sonya Dress by Seamwork

Here, I would probably use the gold contrast fabric for the pockets and cuffs, and then perhaps the yoke as well.
